24 digital prints, electronics, soundtrack.
2008.
A series of 24 pages placed in a horizontal sequence on a wall. As the sequence progresses,
an image slides through the frame from left to right, slowly appearing and then disappearing again. This image
which slides into view is a drawing, a proposal for a monorail system for Vancouver
designed by Welles Coates in 1957.
On the opposite wall, there is an accompanying soundtrack presented on headphones. A calm modulated female voice
is layered to produce a portrait of the Skytrain, Vancouver's metro system.
This work was created for the exhibition
The sound I'm looking for (part 1) at the Charles
H. Scott Gallery, Vancouver, October 2008. My participation in the exhibition
was supported by Culture Ireland. The show was curated by
Cate Rimmer.
