Ghosts of the Garden City
Video (HD with sound), screened with live improvised electronic soundtrack.
2010.
This collaboration with architectural historian Ellen Rowley and musician David Donohoe, emerged from conversations I had with Ellen, relating to her research into twentieth-century Irish architecture.

I made a recording of her detailing aspects of the research, specifically her findings relating to architects Noel Moffett and Herbert Simms. Edits of these recordings and some of the amazing archival images she had uncovered were juxtaposed to create the video element of the piece.

Live, the video was projected at a large scale, in the presence of a large audience and the pre-recorded sound and image fused with the distinctive timbre of Donohoe’s DX7 synthesiser to create a hybrid of lecture, documentary and musical performance.

I produced this piece to accompany The Driver and the Passenger, my solo show at Green On Red. Ghosts of the Garden City was performed at Green On Red on October 28th, 2010.
