Billion year old carbon
Silent seamlessly looped HD video.
A video piece which emerged from research I carried out while on residency at Brown University in early 2011.
I discovered an article in the November 1969 edition of Progressive Architecture
, which presents the results of some research into space-station design. The project was a collaboration between the astronautical engineers at Grumman Aerospace and architects Warner, Burns, Toan & Lunde, who were designing Brown University's Sciences Library (SciLi)
around the same time. The video was shot in one of the Sciences Library's stairwells.
The title is taken from a fragment from the lyrics of Joni Mitchell's performance of her song 'Woodstock' at the 'Celebration at Big Sur' festival in September 1969
. The song is better known as a cover version by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and Matthews' Southern Comfort (whose version was used on the soundtrack of the movie 'Woodstock').
